Help shape the future of aged care in South Canterbury.

Since 1964, Glenwood has been a warm, communal home for older people in Timaru, run by the Glenwood South Canterbury Trust, a registered charitable trust. As a not-for-profit, we reinvest our income back into quality care, comfortable facilities and village life, so residents benefit now and in the future.

We're now seeking new Volunteer Trustees to join our Board and help guide the governance and strategic direction of Glenwood, ensuring we continue to provide quality care, dignity and wellbeing for our residents.

Who we're looking for

You don't need previous governance experience, what matters most is that you're committed, community-minded, and genuinely passionate about aged care.

We'd love to hear from people with experience in areas such as:

  • Governance or leadership

  • Finance or accounting

  • Health, especially aged care

  • Compliance and risk

  • Property or facilities management

  • Community engagement or fundraising

  • Strategic planning

Our current board members bring a wealth of experience from across South Canterbury, including backgrounds in business, health, education, finance and community service.

This diversity ensures decisions are made with both professional insight and a deep understanding of the local community we serve. If you bring enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute your time and expertise, we'd love to hear from you.

What's involved

As a Trustee you'll play a meaningful role in the leadership of Glenwood. The Board safeguards the Trust's purpose, oversees financial sustainability, and supports management in maintaining the highest standards of care. Responsibilities include:

  • Attending monthly Board meetings, held in person from 5 – 7pm

  • Contributing to strategic and financial oversight

  • Supporting Glenwood's activities and events

  • Helping ensure our long-term sustainability

The time commitment is around 4 hours per month (including meetings and preparation), plus two special meetings of two hours each per year.

What you'll gain

This is a genuine opportunity to make a difference in your community. You'll work alongside an experienced and supportive Board, develop your governance skills, and help ensure older people in South Canterbury continue to receive the care they deserve, building on more than sixty years of trusted care at Glenwood.

How to apply

We'd love to hear from you. Please send an email to Neil Dickson, Board Chair, outlining your relevant experience and why you're interested in joining the Glenwood Board.

Expressions of interest are welcome on an ongoing basis.
